Worker Solidarity Coordinator

Retail Action Network (RAN) is seeking a part-time employee to help coordinate our new “Solidarity Steward” program, and assist workers that reach out to RAN in seek of missing wages and more.

Staffing Allotment: 20 hours / week. Reviewed at 3 months.
Compensation: $20.50/hr (wage negotiable, dependent upon organizing experience)

Job Summary:

As the Worker Solidarity Coordinator, you will coordinate a team of volunteers to deliver support and solidarity to workers that are seeking justice. When RAN is contacted by workers seeking support, the Solidarity Steward program is the frontline for tackling the issues that they face. You will be involved in growing this program, refining the way that we deliver these services, and supporting relationships between workers that connect with our organization as well as our growing team of volunteers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Support worker intake and refine our processes for supporting workers.
  2. Ensure that workers feel supported by, and connected to, the worker’s rights movement locally through RAN.
  3. Involve workers in the solutions to creating a better workplace.
  4. Work alongside community partners to ensure our services are in support and collaboration with the services that they provide.

Work Environment:

  • Working both with a team, and independently. Checking in regularly with other RAN staff.
  • Work schedule is flexible, with focus on task completion in a timely manner.
  • Shared office space available.
  • Laptop, printer, internet, and other office supplies available upon request.

Preferred Skills, Training, and Experience

The preferred candidate will have skills & experience inclusive of some or all of the following:

  • Comprehension of employment standards legislation.
  • Experience in organizing social justice campaigns in the workplace, or in a community setting.
  • Experience working in retail or hospitality within the last 6 months.
  • Experience with worker’s rights organizing, or other non-profit / community groups.
