Communications Coordinator

Retail Action Network (RAN) is seeking a part-time employee to help lead current staff, assist with the development of communications strategy, and amplify our organization’s / members’ voices across social media, email marketing, and traditional media outlets.

Staffing Allotment: 20 hours / week. Reviewed at 3 months.

Compensation: $20.50/hr + depending upon experience. Reviewed at 3 months.

 

Job Summary:

 

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for the oversight and implementation of RAN’s communications strategy. Deciding on platforms we use, capturing our stories to be shared with our community, and maintaining a brand that is recognizable and relevant are all a part of this position.

 

This position also includes the role of leading existing and future staff to participate in a communications strategy that spans the organization and applies to their work within it.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Redevelop our social media strategy and encourage the participation of staff and volunteers.
  2. Design and implement an engaging email marketing plan.
  3. Refine and support the storytelling component of RAN with a focus on producing stories for our community.
  4. Oversee the workflow of web developers, graphic designers, and photographers, and manage their involvement in RAN.
  5. Manage and maintain all RAN communications materials and online presence.

 

Work Environment:

  • Working both with a team, and independently. Checking in regularly with other RAN staff.
  • Work schedule is flexible, with focus on task completion in a timely manner.
  • Shared office space available.
  • Laptop, printer, internet, and other office supplies available upon request.

Preferred Skills, Training, and Experience

 

The preferred candidate will have skills & experience inclusive of some or all of the following:

  • Training and experience in the development of communications strategy as it applies to a campaign-based organization.
  • Experience in organizing social justice campaigns in the workplace, or in a community setting.
  • Experience working in retail or hospitality.
  • Experience with workers’ rights organizing, or other non-profit / community groups.
  • Skilled in using various social media platforms, WordPress, Mailchimp.
  • Experienced with basic photography and videography.
