Red Cedar Cafe is a registered not-for-profit society that provides meals to those in need, including seniors, individuals in isolation and the unhoused community. The cafe was founded at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in response to community needs for food security and access. The cafe produces approximately 2000 free meals a week while simultaneously redirecting thousands of kilograms of food waste and de-commodifying our food system. We are moving into a new facility and will be expanding the scope of our programming and outreach with the intention of providing more meals, more access, and more opportunities. We are looking for individuals interested in contributing to this transition and engaging with their community while participating in intentional acts of social change and seeking opportunities for informal exchanges of knowledge. We hope to find increased meaning in nourishment and center our cooking, as much as our ethics, in community-based knowledge. The individuals at the helm of our culinary team are actively committed to improving the livelihoods of all individuals within their community.
Culinary supervisors are responsible for the management and mentorship of culinary staff and volunteers of varying skill levels, and are ultimately responsible for the production of the food within health and safety standards. Main tasks include menu and recipe development and costing, determining and managing staffing requirements, implementing.
